Certificate Program in Applied Journalism (CAJ) - Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, Government of Tamil Nadu, collaborates with Loyola College, Chennai to conduct this program for young media aspirants.
This program helps the young aspirants to understand the basics of journalism focusing on Tamil Nadu as the practice context. The fundamentals include authenticity, accuracy, ethics, fairness, responsibility, research, and evidence-base.
Journalism has evolved into several specializations based on subject domains and platforms viz., Culture, Arts and Films, Science and Technology, Sports, Business, Education, Environment, Climate Change and Weather, Human Rights, Rights of the marginalised including women, children, indigenous communities, migrants, refugees, and the alternate sexualities. Digital Media includes the new media forms as well as the coverage and publishing enabled through Mobiles and Drones.
This certificate program helps the young aspirants identify their passion, core area of strength to specialise towards achieving excellence in the chosen sphere.
It aims to make them a socially responsible, ethical, market-ready media professional prepared to survive and withstand the pressures and dynamics of the external world. An intense training package combines sessions by professional journalists, industry visits and hands-on practice sessions including of space for their creative self-expression. It is the coming together of academia and industry to make a meaningful impact in the media market.
The program begins with laying formidable foundations in the art of impactful communication and journalism. The industry specialists come in as mentors during the program to help the students create their specialized pathways.
As the students finish this certification program, their journey as a media professional begins.
Duration :
This Certificate Program is for 6 months with regular classes from Monday to Friday (10 am - 5 pm) which include guest lectures, workshops, practical activities, and field visits.
Fee :
No fees. (The course expenses are covered by the Tamil Nadu Government). However, outstation candidates should bear the expenses of stay, food, and travel by themselves.
Eligibility :
Any under graduate Degree.
Age :
Between 20 - 25 years.
Certification:
On successful completion of the 6 months' program, based on written and practical evaluation including continuous internal assessment, students will be awarded a Certificate jointly by Loyola College and Skill Development Corporation, Government of Tamil Nadu. Students will also be assessed and certified by Media and Entertainment Skills Council constituted by National Skill Development Corporation.
